eBay's revenue jumps 14% as Depop sales double in the US
eBay's Q3 revenue rose 14% to $3.21 billion and gross merchandise volume climbed 15% to $23.17 billion, boosted by collectibles and Depop, the resale app eBay bought from Etsy in July. In the US, Depop's sales, active users and items sold each more than doubled year over year. Active buyers across eBay reached 147 million, up 4%. CEO Jamie Iannone said collectibles remain eBay's "largest growth contributor," and secondhand shopping keeps growing.
For your store:If you sell collectibles, vintage or secondhand goods, demand is clearly rising across major marketplaces. Make sure your own store captures some of that momentum too.
DoorDash says AI agents have placed just 'several hundred' orders so far
On its Q3 earnings call, DoorDash said third-party AI agents, including Meta's Muse, have placed only a few hundred total orders, a tiny fraction of its roughly 3 million daily deliveries. CEO Tony Xu said he does not want to ignore the trend or overstate it. DoorDash is building its own AI tools instead, including a chatbot, a text-to-order agent and a connector that lets other assistants place orders through its systems.
For your store:AI shopping agents are still a trickle, not a flood. Keep testing with them, but don't restructure your store around agent traffic yet.
UPS: small businesses now make up a record share of US package volume
UPS's Q3 revenue rose 6.7% to $22.9 billion, even as US daily package volume fell 3.3%, mainly on fewer Amazon shipments. Small and midsize businesses, including platform-based sellers, reached a record 35.1% share of US volume, with SMB volume alone up 3.7%. UPS's discounted-rate program for smaller shippers brought in $1.4 billion globally this quarter. The company expects US volume to jump about 25% from Q3 to Q4 as holiday shipping ramps up.
For your store:If you ship through UPS, check whether you qualify for its SMB discount program before Black Friday volume hits. Every bit off shipping cost helps at peak.
Prada pilots a ChatGPT tool for luxury shoppers in the UK, US and Italy
Prada partnered with Accenture Song to launch a ChatGPT-based tool that lets shoppers explore products, get recommendations and find store information through conversation, drawing only on Prada's own brand content. The pilot runs in the UK, US and Italy and is pitched as a first for a luxury fashion house. Prada's digital director Laura Campanella called conversational shopping "a natural evolution of traditional e-commerce."
For your store:You don't need a luxury budget to test this. A simple AI chat widget trained only on your own product data can do the same job on a small store.
Aldi UK commits £17.5m to solar power at 230 more stores
Aldi will install solar panels at 230 additional UK stores between 2027 and 2031, adding to the 100 stores fitted in 2025 and 2026, and pushing total solar spending to about £26 million. Each system can cover up to 30% of a store's annual energy use. Managing director Jonathan Neale said the retailer has "plenty of space on our store roofs," and expects more than 500 stores to carry panels by the end of 2026.
For your store:Energy costs hit every retailer, online or off. If you run a warehouse or storefront, check what rooftop solar could save you long term.
