Hackers try to extort ASOS through an in-app pop-up
Shoppers using the ASOS app got a pop-up claiming hackers had "fully compromised" the retailer's Snowflake cloud data instance, warning ASOS to pay up or see customer data leaked. Experts called the tactic "virtually unheard of" and said it suggests attackers reached systems behind the app itself. ASOS gave no official statement; its chatbot said only that it was investigating. Shares fell 5% within minutes.

Anta Sports becomes Puma's largest shareholder with a $1.7 billion stake
Chinese sportswear group Anta Sports bought a 29.06% stake in Puma from the Pinault family's Groupe Artemis for about 1.5 billion euros, making it Puma's largest shareholder. Anta already controls Amer Sports, owner of Arc'teryx, Salomon and Wilson. Its chairman said Anta backs Puma's ongoing turnaround and wants a board seat, while insisting it has no takeover plans and will respect Puma's independence.

Amazon now controls 63% of Germany's online retail
A study by IFH Koln and General Evidence finds Amazon, including its third-party marketplace, now accounts for 63% of German online retail, with sales reaching 69.1 billion euros last year, up 5%. Amazon directly or indirectly influences 41% of German spending in the categories studied. Otto and Zalando still grew, and one in eight Amazon shoppers say they're shifting some purchases to Shein or Temu over price.
For your store:If you sell in Germany outside Amazon, lean into price transparency and delivery speed, the two things shoppers cite for defecting to Chinese platforms.
TikTok Shop's UK business dwarfs the rest of its European markets
ECDB data shows the UK made up 65% of TikTok Shop's 2025 European GMV at 2.63 billion euros, with over 300,000 British sellers on the platform. Spain trails far behind at 14%, and France, Germany and Italy each sit near 9%, all three launched only in March 2025. ECDB expects UK GMV near 5 billion euros in 2026, with other markets roughly doubling from a smaller base.

Where does merchandising end and retail media begin?
Practical Ecommerce's Armando Roggio argues that retail media and merchandising now compete for the same prime shelf and search placement, turning a design choice into a governance question. He proposes relevance as the dividing line: cap how much of a page sponsored slots can take, hold ads to the same relevance bar as organic listings, and track the sales lost to displaced merchandising as a real cost of ad revenue.
For your store:Before adding more sponsored placements to your own site, measure what they bump off the page and whether that trade is actually paying off.
