Shopify opens store checkout to AI shopping agents

Shopify said AI browser agents can now complete checkout on every eligible merchant's store, using WebMCP to read, fill and submit an order with the buyer's approval, including Shop Pay. Meta's Muse agent added the same checkout days earlier, and Instinct's assistant can now find and buy a product in one chat. PYMNTS research found 56% of shoppers would let an agent compare products, but only 35% would share saved payment details.

For your store: If you run a Shopify store, check that checkout rules, discounts and stock levels still hold up when an autonomous agent, not a human, completes the purchase.

Amazon brings bulk warehousing to Europe

Amazon said its Global Warehousing and Distribution service is expanding into Europe by year end, reaching Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the UK alongside Japan and Canada. GWD lets sellers ship inventory in bulk to one facility instead of splitting stock per country, with lower storage costs and replenishment into FBA up to five days faster, since products stay pooled until local demand pulls them to a fulfillment center.

For your store: If you sell across the EU and UK on Amazon, compare GWD against splitting stock per country once it launches in your markets.

Holiday shoppers plan to stock up on essentials, not just gifts

Adobe forecasts $275.1 billion in US online holiday spending, up 6.7% year over year, with Cyber Week alone reaching $47.5 billion. But growth is shifting toward necessities: Adobe expects clothing basics to jump 210%, personal hygiene products 150% and baby products 113% during Cyber Week, as budget pressure pushes shoppers to use holiday deals to restock essentials rather than only buy gifts.

For your store: Build a stock-up bundle or restock reminder into your holiday campaigns alongside gift promotions; essentials shoppers are there to spend too.

David's Bridal turns its wedding data into a vendor marketplace

David's Bridal launched Pearl Connect, a platform where wedding vendors like photographers and florists can message and book engaged couples using details already shared in its Pearl Planner tool, such as date, venue and budget. President Elina Vilk said it means "the vendor doesn't have to spend the first several exchanges figuring out whether the opportunity is a fit." A free tier is available, with paid plans at $49 and $119 a month.

For your store: If you serve a niche life-event audience, turning your customers' own planning data into paid vendor leads is a revenue line worth studying.

Hush leaves online only after 23 years, opens three stores

Women's fashion brand Hush, online only since launch, is opening its first three physical stores, in Bluewater, Guildford and Marlow. CEO Sarah Miles said the move is about customers "wanting a deeper and more physical relationship with the brand," meant to complement digital sales rather than replace them. Hush joins other digital-first brands, including Skims, Karen Millen and TopShop, moving into physical retail to deepen loyalty.

For your store: A small, well-chosen physical footprint, even a pop-up, can convert loyal online customers who just want to touch and try before they buy.

The Fed proposes rules for stablecoins

The Federal Reserve proposed rules requiring stablecoin issuers to back coins with high-quality liquid assets like Treasury bills, hold capital against risk, and go through an approval process with Fed oversight of how assets are held. Governor Michael Barr said the framework needs "strong guardrails and consumer protections" so coins stay "reliably and promptly redeemed at par." The Fed is the last of four regulators required to propose stablecoin rules under the Genius Act.

For your store: If you accept or plan to accept stablecoin payments, expect issuer requirements to tighten; stick to established, well-backed coins for now.

Shrinkflation quietly costs German brands their customers

A Capgemini survey of 12,000 shoppers across 12 countries found half of German consumers have dropped a brand over unannounced shrinkflation, and 71% globally would switch brands over hidden downsizing. Only 17% see shrinkflation as fair, while 66% would rather accept a small, clearly labeled price rise than a quiet size cut. Preference for store brands also fell, from 65% to 44% in under a year.

For your store: If you must resize or reformulate a product, say so on the pack and product page; hiding it costs more trust than the change itself.

Stripe's alumni network keeps seeding new payments startups

Former Stripe employees keep founding payments companies: Circuit & Chisel raised $19.2 million for agentic AI payment infrastructure, Latitude Global raised a $35 million Series A for cross-border stablecoin payments, and Increase, founded by Stripe's first employee, bought a bank and launched its own banking services. Newer entrants Lemma Technologies and New Generation are building healthcare billing and AI-commerce tools.

For your store: Faster, cheaper cross-border and agentic payment rails are coming from many directions at once; it's worth re-checking your payment provider's roadmap each year.
